Millions of Americans have been ordered to quarantine during the coronavirus pandemic, and most U.S. states have implemented statewide isolation measures, whether “stay at home” or “shelter in place.” This is to help flatten the curve and slow the virus from spreading.
Just recently, more states have ushered stay-at-home orders (perhaps a little later than necessary), including Florida, Georgia and Mississippi (to go into effect today, Friday, April 3).
However, 13 states have not ordered a lockdown.
The states are:
Alabama
Arkansas
Iowa
Missouri
Nebraska
North Dakota
Oklahoma
South Carolina
South Dakota
Texas
Utah
Wyoming
Only 7 of these 13 states have specific cities under stay-at-home orders, including: Alabama, Missouri, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Wyoming. However, the stay-at-home orders are only in select cities, and not the entire state.
All states should put their residents in stay-at-home orders. Even Dr. Anthony Fauci told Anderson Cooper on CNN: “I don’t understand why that’s not happening.”
5 Stupid Things New Yorkers Have Done During Coronavirus Pandemic
While experts, scientists, government officials and doctors encourage everyone in the US to stay at home, no matter where they live, some state governors continue to put their residents at risk.
“Y’all, we are not California, we’re not New York, we aren’t even Louisiana,” Alabama governor Kay Ivey said on a conference call with reporters, according to AL.com. Ivey said she did not plan to issue a statewide order, stating she wanted to balance the health of the state’s residents with the health of the economy.
Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson told NPR he’s implemented a targeted approach to closures rather than a statewide stay-at-home order.
“When we see a problem, we take very specific, directed action,” Hutchinson said. “This is in contrast to what they call a ‘stay-at-home order’ in some other states, there’s no such thing across the country. Because when you tell them to stay at home, you’re allowing them to go to the grocery store, they can get their essential items, if they’re working, they can go to their manufacturing facility, they can go outside and get exercise. A targeted approach is what is working for us in Arkansas. People are misled by this idea that this stay at home order is magical because there are so many exceptions to it in every state that it drives the rule.”
Arkansas is the only state in the south with no stay-at-home order, and no cities in Arkansas have a lockdown.
The 2 Reasons Why Airlines Are Still Flying Planes with 0 Passengers During Coronavirus Pandemic
About 297 million people, about 90% of the U.S. population, are under a stay-at-home order, according to The New York Times.
Remember to quarantine as much as you can, meaning order all your groceries and supplies, like via Walgreens, which delivers, and limit your time outside. Stay safe, everyone.
