7 Best Luxury Cruise Lines, According to U.S. News & World Report

Viking Ocean Cruises is the No. 1 luxury cruise line in the world. This is according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Cruise Lines report announced November 2021. The publication went on to rank the 7 best luxury cruise lines based on several factors, including expert evaluations of cruise ship quality, reputation among travelers, results from health assessments conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and other factors, such as price class and itinerary offerings.

Here are the best luxury cruise lines for 2022

  1. Viking Ocean Cruises
  2. Seabourn Cruise Line
  3. Regent Seven Seas Cruises
  4. Azamara
  5. Crystal Cruises
  6. Silversea Cruises
  7. Oceania Cruises

U.S. News & World Report also revealed Best Cruise Lines for Couples. Viking ranked No. 1 in this category as well, followed by Seabourn Cruise Line and Azamara.

Viking Ocean Cruises also ranked No 1 for Best Cruise Lines in the Mediterranean.

Many fan favorite luxury cruise lines like PONANT and Virgin Voyages did not make the Best Luxury Cruise Line list, or any other ranking.

For the luxury cruise lines ranking, U.S. News included only cruise lines with a price class rating of 3.5 or above.

U.S. News also revealed that, based on survey data collected, frequent travelers indicated that they would cruise again post pandemic, and 20% are already signed up for their next sailing.

“Though most avenues of travel have been impacted throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the cruise industry has seen the most challenges,” Nicola Wood, travel editor at U.S. News, said in a statement. “U.S. News is excited to once again highlight the leading cruise lines and provide in-depth information on ships, onboard activities and itineraries to travelers looking to research and book a cruise vacation.”

To rank the best cruise lines, U.S. News & World report uses a strict cruise ranking methodology that follow scoring components. The overall rating using three elements is used to determined the placement of each cruise line for the list. The elements include expert rating (30% weight), traveler rating (50% weight) and health rating (20% weight).
