Allegiant Air has opened a new sales channel that puts its flights in front of a much larger audience. The low-cost carrier based in Las Vegas reached an exclusive one-year agreement with Expedia that makes its schedules searchable and bookable on the major travel site. The move follows Allegiant’s acquisition of Sun Country Airlines earlier this year and forms part of a broader effort to grow its footprint.
Merger Drives New Distribution Strategy
The timing of the Expedia partnership aligns closely with Allegiant’s integration of Sun Country, which closed in May. Executives have stated the combined operation should deliver roughly $140 million in annual benefits, largely by strengthening the airline’s presence in the Midwest. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, Sun Country’s main base, now serves as a key growth market for the single brand.
Robert Neal, president of Allegiant, described the goal as creating one unified Allegiant operation that increases capacity and adds service into the Minneapolis-St. Paul region. Full integration is expected to take between 12 and 18 months. During that period, the carrier plans to expand distribution options while developing a stronger co-branded credit card and loyalty program.
Practical Changes for Travelers
Before the agreement, Allegiant sold tickets exclusively through its own website. The addition of Expedia gives price-comparison shoppers and occasional travelers an easier way to discover the airline’s routes. Sun Country flights were already listed on the platform, so the change extends that visibility to the full Allegiant network.
Search results on Expedia now display Allegiant options immediately. However, travelers still need to return to the airline’s site to add extras such as checked bags or seat assignments. This separation means some passengers may miss out on bundle discounts that combine those services with the base fare.
Fare Options and Booking Trade-Offs
Allegiant continues to sell three distinct bundles on its own site. The basic option includes a seat assignment and a free carry-on. The bonus bundle substitutes a checked bag and adds an extra-legroom seat. The total bundle combines a carry-on, a checked bag, and extra-legroom seating.
Base fares cover only the confirmed seat on the flight. Any traveler who values the bundled extras may find it more economical to book directly with Allegiant rather than through the new Expedia channel. The one-year agreement leaves room for adjustments once the airlines complete their operational merger.
Looking Ahead for Budget Travelers
The expanded distribution reflects a deliberate shift in how Allegiant reaches customers who may not have considered the airline before. Greater visibility on a major platform could increase bookings, yet the continued need to manage add-ons separately preserves the airline’s core low-fare model.
As the Sun Country integration progresses, further changes to booking, loyalty, and route networks are likely. Travelers monitoring Midwest service or seeking simple fare comparisons now have one additional place to check when planning trips on Allegiant.
