American Express cardholders flying through Amsterdam now have a dedicated lounge at Schiphol Airport. The new 6,000-square-foot space opens on Sept. 17 and becomes the 33rd Centurion Lounge worldwide. It marks the first such facility at the airport tied to a global credit card network. Eligible Platinum and other premium card members can use the lounge for same-day departures under standard access rules. ([1])

Practical Access for Cardholders

Travelers need an eligible American Express card, a same-day boarding pass for a flight departing within three hours, and government-issued identification. The lounge follows the same entry policies as other Centurion locations, including guest rules tied to annual spending thresholds or fees. A digital waitlist option appears in the Amex app during busy periods. This setup directly benefits frequent flyers who hold the American Express Platinum Card or Business Platinum Card, along with certain Delta Reserve cards when flying Delta on the same day. The policy keeps entry controlled while giving qualifying cardholders a reliable preflight option at a major European hub. Card members on connecting itineraries receive a slightly longer window of five hours. No guests are permitted without meeting the spending criteria or paying the fee.

Design Inspired by Local Canals

The lounge draws from Dutch art, culture, and landscapes through a color palette of blues, greens, and earth tones. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide natural light across the compact space, which sits on the second level between the E and F concourses. Local artwork appears throughout, complete with QR codes that allow guests to learn more about the pieces and artists. Seating includes armchairs, tables, booths, and group areas suited to different traveler needs. The smaller footprint compared with larger Centurion Lounges means fewer amenities overall, yet the design remains intentional from every detail. Views from the windows focus more on the terminal than dramatic tarmac scenes.

Food, Coffee, and Bar Highlights

A dedicated Blue Roast Coffee Bar serves locally sourced Dutch coffee with options such as espresso, cappuccino, flat white, and latte. Guests can pair drinks with a stroopwafel for a distinctly local touch. The buffet rotates every three weeks and features Dutch and regional European items, including bitterballen, an Amsterdam slider with Dutch slaw and pickles, truffle mac and cheese, and meatballs. The bar offers wine, cocktails, and a signature Canal House drink made with genever, dry vermouth, olive brine, and orange peel. A berry and basil refresher mocktail stands out as a light, bubbly alternative. These offerings give cardholders a taste of the Netherlands without leaving the airport.

Timeline and Network Growth

The Amsterdam opening fits into a broader expansion of the Centurion Lounge network. American Express has also confirmed upcoming locations at Newark Liberty International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport, plus another Sidecar concept at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The steady additions provide more consistent access points for premium cardholders on international routes. For now, the Schiphol lounge delivers a focused, locally influenced space for eligible travelers seeking a quiet spot before departure. The network continues to grow at a measured pace that matches demand from card members.
