Cardholders with the American Express Platinum or Business Platinum face a clear deadline. Quarterly statement credits reset at the end of September, and unused balances disappear if not applied by then. The $895 annual fee on each card makes these benefits a key part of the value proposition, yet many members overlook them until it is too late. ([1])
Why the Deadline Matters Now
Both versions of the Platinum card combine monthly, quarterly, and semiannual credits that can total hundreds of dollars annually when used consistently. The third quarter ends September 30, leaving only a short window for members to capture the current round of benefits. Missing these credits means leaving money on the table that cannot be recovered later in the year.
Enrollment is required for most of the quarterly offers, and purchases must post correctly to trigger the statement credits. Cardmembers who have not yet activated the relevant benefits risk losing the full amount available this quarter. Acting promptly avoids that outcome and keeps the card’s economics working in the holder’s favor.
Personal Platinum Card Benefits
The consumer version of the card offers two main quarterly credits that together can reach $175 in value. Up to $75 applies to purchases at U.S. Lululemon stores and online, excluding outlets. Up to $100 covers spending at U.S. Resy-affiliated restaurants, with enrollment required for both.
Cardmembers should activate the benefits in their Amex account before any qualifying purchases. Online orders through a shopping portal can stretch the Lululemon credit further by capturing additional promotions. For the dining credit, a gift card purchase at a participating restaurant offers one way to preserve value across quarters if immediate dining plans are not in place.
Business Platinum Card Benefits
The Business Platinum Card provides its own set of quarterly credits that can deliver up to $140 before the end of September. Up to $90 applies to U.S. purchases with Indeed. Up to $50 covers eligible charges at Hilton properties after enrollment in the Hilton for Business program.
Room rates and incidentals qualify, and some data points indicate the credit may also apply to dining or retail purchases inside a Hilton location even without an overnight stay. Enrollment remains essential so that transactions post correctly and generate the expected credit.
Practical Steps Before the Reset
Both cards also carry a semiannual hotel credit of up to $300 that runs through December 30 for the second half of the year. Prepaid bookings through American Express Travel at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection properties trigger this benefit when paid with the Platinum card. Members without immediate travel can still book a future stay to lock in the credit.
New applicants receive an instant card number upon approval, allowing immediate use of the digital version while the physical card arrives. Offers can reach 175,000 bonus points on the personal card or 300,000 on the business version after meeting spending requirements, though terms vary. Contactless payments sometimes require extra attention because third-party processors may prevent automatic credit posting.
Enroll in benefits, track postings within eight to ten weeks, and contact Amex if a credit does not appear.
Staying organized with these quarterly resets turns the annual fee into a net positive rather than an expense. Members who treat the September 30 deadline as a firm cutoff can capture the remaining value without complication.
