Amtrak is celebrating a half a century of moving America where it wants to go with a major Amtrak sale.

The 50th Anniversary Sale offers fares at 50% off, with a maximum of $50 per segment, available on coach class for routes all across the country, as well as Acela Business Class. To help celebrate the 50th anniversary and the Amtrak sale, President Joe Biden joined Amtrak executives for a ceremony to pay homage to Amtrak. The event was streamed live on April 30 from Gray 30th Street Station in Philadelphia.

“Today we have a once in a generation opportunity to position Amtrak, and rail, and intercity rail, as well in general to play a central role in our transformation of transportation and economic future,” said President Biden at the event.

Over the next 15 years, Amtrak’s vision for expansion will connect up to 160 communities throughout the United States by building new or improved rail corridors in over 25 states. As part of this plan, Amtrak will introduce new stations in over half the U.S. states, increase rail service to 47 of the top 50 metropolitan areas and create over half a million new, well-paying jobs.

The Amtrak fleet is also being modernized. Next year, Amtrak will debut the first, new Acela high-speed trains. Even sooner, customers will begin riding new state-owned railcars in the Midwest and California and diesel-electric locomotives will go into service this summer. Overnight trains with refreshed interiors on Superliner bi-level coaches, sleeping cars, lounges and dining cars are also coming in the next several months.

This summer, Amtrak expects to proceed with the purchase of a new fleet of 83 Intercity Train Sets, which will provide modern rail amenities to better serve Amtrak customers on the Northeast Corridor and various state-supported routes.

For travelers who are booking the Amtrak sale, the sale fares are available here, and this offer is valid between April 28 – May 5, for future travel between June 2 and Nov. 13, 2021, for one-way coach and Acela Business Class only.

“Since launching service in 1971, Amtrak has been continuously driving towards the future – setting ambitious sustainability goals, rolling out sleek new locomotives and extending access to new communities,” Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn said in a statement. “To celebrate our 50th Anniversary and to welcome travelers back to Amtrak, we are offering deeply discounted fares of $50 or less per segment across our network for travel throughout the summer and fall.”
