Airport and review ranking site Skytrax doles out the awards each year, after surveying travelers on their experience at airports around the world. This year, it’s crowning Qatar’s international airport as the best in the world thanks to its modern, sleek design, dining and shopping options, and the easy-to-navigate terminals.

Doha Hamad Airport also won first place for Best Shopping at an Airport and Best Airport in the Middle East for the 10th consecutive year. The airport says it’s thankful for the praise, and is not slowing down when it comes to making passengers have exceptional travel experiences.

Doha is no stranger to the top spot, earning it in both 2021 and 2022. Singapore’s Changi Airport held the top spot in last year’s rankings. It fell to number two this year.

United States Airports
While no U.S. airports made it on the top 20 list for world’s best overall, airports in the United States weren’t left completely out of the accolades list.
The TWA Hotel at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport won best hotel in North America. (The Crowne Plaza Changi Airport won the World’s Best Airport Hotel.)
The Houston airport system as a whole won World’s Best Art in the airport, and Houston’s Hobby Airport won Best Regional Airport in North America.
Newark Airport won World’s Best New Airport Terminal for its addition of Terminal A. The new terminal also received the highest five-star rating from Skytrax.
The best staff in North America award goes to the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, which is also one of the busiest airports in the US. Two U.S. airports made it in the top 30 for best airports in the world: Seattle/Tacoma and Houston Hobby, at 24th and 29th, respectively.
Other Winners
Skytrax surveys passengers on their experiences at each airport, ranging from security wait times, to cleanliness, shopping and dining, and staff friendliness and hands out accolades based on those results, as well. Tokyo’s Narita Airport ranks number one in friendliest airport staff, whereas Tokyo’s Haneda Airport ranks as the cleanest airport in the world and the best domestic airport in the world.
Rome’s Fiumicino Airport has the best security, according to passengers surveyed. And Seoul Incheon Airport is the world’s most family-friendly airport. In Japan, New Chitose Airport won Most Improved Airport, while Kansai International Airport won top honors for the World’s Best Airport Baggage Delivery. For the best food, head to the Istanbul Airport, which also won Best Airport in Southern Europe.
