Bilt is preparing a significant shift in how its premium credit cards reward spending starting in 2027. Existing holders of the Bilt Palladium and Obsidian cards can preserve the option to earn 4% Bilt Cash on purchases, yet the window to lock in that choice closes on each cardholder’s anniversary date. The change affects only new applicants after the end of this year, while current members must act through the mobile app to avoid defaulting to a housing-focused rewards structure.
The upcoming rewards overhaul
Beginning January 1, 2027, Bilt will limit new cardholders to a single rewards path centered on rent and mortgage payments. That option delivers up to 1.25 points per dollar on housing expenses but removes the ability to earn Bilt Cash on everyday spending. Existing cardholders retain the flexibility to keep the 4% Bilt Cash rate, provided they select it before their personal anniversary deadline. The adjustment reflects broader adjustments at Bilt as the program matures. Cardholders who do nothing will automatically move to the housing-only structure once their anniversary passes, and the choice cannot be reversed later.
Steps to preserve 4% Bilt Cash earnings
The process to lock in the current earning rate is already available inside the Bilt app. Cardholders who want to continue receiving Bilt Cash should complete the following actions before their anniversary arrives. – Open the Bilt app and sign in.
– Navigate to the wallet section and select the Bilt credit card.
– Scroll to the “Your card rewards” area and tap the filter icon on the bonus rewards tile.
– Tap the “Moving to” bar, then swipe left to reveal the Flexible Bilt Cash option.
– Select that option and confirm the change. A confirmation screen appears once the selection is saved, and the top tile updates to reflect the retained Bilt Cash structure. The deadline for most users falls on their individual card anniversary, which could be as late as February 2027 for some accounts.
Why the 4% rate still matters for high-spending members
Bilt Cash serves multiple purposes, yet its greatest value for Palladium and Obsidian holders lies in funding the program’s point accelerator. Each $200 in Bilt Cash unlocks an extra point per dollar on up to $5,000 in spending, and the benefit can be activated five times annually. Maintaining the 4% earning rate supplies the cash needed to trigger all five activations, producing 3 points per dollar on $25,000 of annual spend and a total of 75,000 points. Without the 4% rate, the housing-only structure supplies far less Bilt Cash each year. Cardholders would receive a smaller anniversary bonus plus occasional top-ups tied to point redemptions, which covers only three accelerator activations rather than five. The difference becomes material for members who maximize the accelerator every year.
Who can safely ignore the update
Members who prefer the simpler housing-only rewards or who already use that setting have no action required. The new structure becomes the sole option for anyone approved after December 31, 2026. Those still deciding can consult Bilt’s online calculator to compare projected earnings under each path. The decision ultimately rests on individual spending patterns and whether the accelerator feature justifies managing an additional rewards currency. Existing cardholders who value the current flexibility have a clear, time-limited opportunity to secure it through a few taps in the app. Bilt’s 2027 changes close one rewards avenue for future applicants while giving current members a final chance to keep the more versatile option. Acting promptly ensures the 4% Bilt Cash rate remains available on the anniversary date and beyond.
