Carnival Cruise Line is stirring excitement in the travel world with its announcement of Carnival Rewards, a brand-new loyalty program set to debut next year in June 2026.
This revamped setup shifts focus from simply racking up cruise nights to rewarding how much guests are spending, on board or in port. For a few frequent cruisers, this might feel like a major upgrade designed to make every dollar count.
A Double Dose Of Rewards
Unlike the current “Very Important Fun Person” (VIFP) system that bases status on total cruise nights, Carnival Rewards brings a fresh twist: earn both spend-based points (3 points per $1 on fares, drinks, spa services, excursions, and more) and status-qualifying stars at the same rate. It’s a dual-track approach, so indulging in that specialty dinner or spa day now offers real value besides happy memories with your family.
Plus, if you carry the new Carnival Rewards Mastercard, everyday spending (like your daily coffee run or grocery shop) will count toward your cruise perks as well, allowing Carnival Cruisers to rack up the points without stepping on the ship.
Four Tiers With A Fresh Read
The program sorts members into four tiers — Red, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond — based on stars you earn over a two-year cycle. Qualify once, and your status remains in effect for two more years, except for Diamond, which lasts a whopping six years, providing a long runway to enjoy the top-tier treatments.
What about the groups who have been loyal fans of Carnival before this new system? Are you worried about losing those hard-earned perks you got in the past?
Don’t be! Carnival is giving existing VIFP members a soft landing:
- All current status carries over into the new system post–June 2026 launch.
- Gold and Platinum stay valid through May 2028; Diamond members ride at that level through 2032
- FunPoints on existing Carnival credit cards get converted into the new points structure
Why It’s A Big Deal
This isn’t just a value tweak, but it marks a major evolution in how Carnival sees loyalty.
Company President Christine Duffy explained that the old system “made it harder to deliver the exceptional experience our Diamond and Platinum members deserve.” By building in flexibility, Carnival Rewards aims to ramp up personalized perks and spend-based rewards, putting it on par with airline and hotel programs that already use this two-pronged system.
With Carnival Rewards, the line clearly stakes a claim in the evolving loyalty landscape, one that increasingly favors spend over sheer time spent at sea. For savvy travelers, it means smarter rewards, shorter wait times to upgrade status, and more control over cruise perks. It’s a breezy new way to sail!
