Jean-Georges Vongerichten told us his secret favorite vacation spot, and we’re OK with it

At the Taste of Waldorf event at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, I had some one-on-one time with iconic, three Michelin-starred and hilarious chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who opened up about his favorite vacation spot.

Jean-Georges recently opened his first restaurant on the west coast (June 1) at Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills, and discerning Angelenos are crazy excited. JGV was also a judge for Taste of Waldorf, an annual food event where the top Waldorf chefs compete to have their dish featured on all 26 Waldorf Astoria properties. You can read my story for The Telegraph here and you can read my hotel review of Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills here.

For the article, there wasn’t enough space for all the amazing things Jean-Georges told me, including his unforgettable travel moments. When asked where his favorite pace to travel is, Jean-George says, “If it’s now, it’s Amalfi Coast.”

But then I asked what his fantasy destination/trip is. “Wherever it is, it has to be exotic,” he says. “It has to be a barefoot community. I love Ubud in Bali. I’m an Aman junkie. The reason I like Bali is that you can take your shoes off and put a sarong on. I picked some rice last time I was there. There’s a ball of rice in my office I use when I get too stressed.”

OK, I love Bali too, so I’m down with his answer. See you next time at Amandari, JGV!
