Frontier Airlines has announced a series of updates to its Frontier Miles loyalty program that lower the qualification threshold for its top Elite Diamond tier starting in 2027. The changes also introduce new or improved benefits for members at every elite level. At the same time, the airline is reducing the miles earned on basic fare bookings for most passengers, with steeper cuts for those without the co-branded credit card. The most notable shift involves Elite Diamond qualification. Members will need only 75,000 elite status points earned in 2026 to reach Diamond status in 2027, down from the previous 100,000-point requirement. This adjustment makes the airline’s highest tier more attainable for a broader group of frequent flyers. The change applies specifically to the 2027 qualification cycle and reflects Frontier’s effort to expand access to premium benefits. Other tiers see different adjustments. Silver and Gold requirements will rise beginning in 2027, moving to 15,000 and 25,000 points respectively. Platinum stays at 50,000 points. New and Expanded Perks for Elite Members
All elite tiers will receive enhanced benefits in 2027. Silver members gain space-available upgrades to UpFront Plus or first class four hours before departure on Economy or Premium bundles, along with preferred seating upgrades. Gold members receive similar upgrades eight hours out plus access to premium seating. Platinum members enjoy upgrades 18 hours before departure, premium seating for the entire booking, and an increase in checked bag weight allowance from 40 to 50 pounds per bag. Diamond members receive the earliest upgrade window at 24 hours before departure. They also keep two free checked bags per traveler on the booking, with the weight limit rising to 50 pounds each. Platinum members will trade their current unlimited companion travel benefit for two companion certificates instead. Frontier plans to add milestone rewards at each tier later in 2026, giving members additional choices beyond the core status perks.
Adjustments to Mileage Earning Rates
Starting September 1, Frontier is changing how many miles passengers earn per dollar spent. The reductions hit basic fares hardest, particularly for members without the Frontier Airlines World Mastercard. Noncardholders will see earnings drop sharply across all status levels on these lowest-priced tickets. Cardholders face smaller reductions on basic fares but gain modestly higher rates on bundle purchases. The airline is clearly steering travelers toward higher-priced Economy, Premium, or Business bundles. Noncardholders earn fewer miles on bundles as well, though the cuts are less severe than on basic fares. Cardholders receive slight increases when buying bundles.
