It’s been a good ten years since I visited Dominican Republic. This time around, I’m over on the west coast in Bayahibe La Romana at the new Hilton La Romana Adult All Inclusive Resort. Hilton took over Dreams Resort last year and finished up its renovations within months, and it’s been taking guests as of last fall.
The resort is split into two sections: an adult section and a family section, though the two properties merge in the middle. There are almost 700 rooms, which is a lot, even for an all-inclusive, but it never feels crowded. Busy, yes, but not crowded.
Hilton La Romana is also incredibly diverse. I’ve heard at least 6 different languages spoken and have met travelers from Argentina, Spain, Russia and England. There are also several gay couples on property, so Hilton La Romana is gay friendly, and I brought Ruby, because the hotel is also pet friendly.
One other thing: so many people have asked me about the VIP service at Punta Cana International Airport, which lets you breeze through security. I did a lengthy review about it here.
At Hilton La Romana, I’m here for three nights with my friend Kris from Toronto, and we’re spending literally every waking second at the beach or premium pool (for the adult section, you can opt to upgrade to “premium,” which gets you access to a private pool and a handful of restaurants exclusive to premium guests).
Anyway, if you’re traveling to Dominican Republic, there are a few things you should know before you get there. Read my story on 7 things you need to know about Dominican Republic.
