Travelers who rely on JetBlue for trips to Antigua or Daytona Beach will soon need alternative carriers or connections. The airline is ending service to both destinations while discontinuing several other routes. These moves free up aircraft for a major expansion at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The changes reflect JetBlue’s broader effort to strengthen its position at FLL after becoming the top carrier there following Spirit Airlines’ exit. Company plans call for increasing daily departures from about 130 to more than 150 this winter.
Routes Ending This Fall
Service to Antigua from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport will stop on October 31. Flights between JFK and Daytona Beach end September 9, as do Boston-to-Daytona Beach trips on the same date.
Additional cuts include the seasonal Providence-to-Fort Myers route and three routes from JFK to Chicago O’Hare, Nashville, and Vero Beach, all scheduled to conclude in September or October. The Boston-Amsterdam flight will operate only during summer months starting in winter 2026.
Practical Impact on Passengers
Passengers holding tickets on the discontinued routes will receive rebooking options or refunds, though exact details depend on individual bookings. Those planning leisure travel to the Caribbean or Florida’s east coast may face higher fares or longer itineraries on other airlines.
The adjustments come at a time when many travelers book summer and fall trips months in advance. Route reductions can shift demand toward remaining carriers and airports in the affected markets.
Fort Lauderdale Expansion Plans
JetBlue described Fort Lauderdale as one of the biggest opportunities in its history and a cornerstone of its JetForward strategy to return to profitability. The carrier is turning FLL into a more complete hub focused on East Coast leisure travel.
Beyond added flights, the airline has confirmed interest in opening a lounge at the airport as part of its growing network there. The moves prioritize higher-performing routes while redeploying planes to support the larger operation at FLL.
Looking Ahead for the Airline
These network changes illustrate how carriers continually adjust capacity to match demand and strategic priorities. JetBlue’s focus on Fort Lauderdale positions it to capture more leisure traffic along the East Coast in coming seasons.
Passengers who frequently fly the affected routes may need to monitor schedules closely as the fall travel period approaches. The airline’s next steps at FLL will determine whether similar adjustments occur elsewhere in its system.
