10 Luxury Destinations That Are Surprisingly Affordable Right Now

People want to live in luxury, vacation with some of the best hotels in the world, and enjoy fantastic food all for the lower costs. As prices have risen all across the world, it may be hard to find the next luxurious place, but…

Forget everything you think you know about luxury travel pricing. While everyone’s fighting over overpriced hotel rooms in Paris and paying tons of money for airport sandwiches, savvy travelers are discovering that some of the world’s most amazing destinations have become surprisingly accessible. As a budget traveler, I have been often surprised on well you can travel while spending so little.

Whether it’s due to favorable exchange rates, post-pandemic recovery pricing, or simply being overlooked by the masses, these 10 destinations offer five-star experiences at three-star prices.

Istanbul, Turkey

The Turkish lira’s weakness against major currencies means your dollar stretches incredibly far. The best thing is that everything just drops in price. Always remember to bargain and haggle. Not everywhere in the world is like the U.S.A where you take the first price.

Istanbul feels like stepping into a living museum where luxury has been perfected over centuries. This old Byzantine city has transformed into a hub of transportation, luxury, and fantastic food. Stay at the Four Seasons Sultanahmet, housed in a former Ottoman prison, for a fraction of what you’d pay for similar luxury in European capitals. Dine at Michelin-starred restaurants where seven-course tasting menus cost less than a decent dinner in New York.

The real magic happens in the details: private Bosphorus yacht tours for under $100, traditional Turkish baths in Ottoman-era hammams, and shopping for handwoven carpets in the Grand Bazaar where your bargaining skills actually matter. When I mean bargaining, you should bargain like you are buying a car.

Even the city’s most exclusive rooftop bars, with panoramic views of the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, charge prices that would barely cover appetizers in similar venues elsewhere.

Georgia (The Country)

Did you know you can get a year visa into Georgia. This country is bringing expats and digital nomads from all over. Why you may ask? The country is booming with great infrastructure, low prices, and amazing hospitality.

Tbilisi might be the most underpriced luxury destination in the world right now. This former Soviet republic has transformed into a sophisticated playground where wine culture dates back 8,000 years and hospitality is considered a sacred duty. Stay in boutique hotels housed in Art Nouveau mansions for under $150 a night, complete with wine cellars and private courtyards.

The culinary scene rivals any European capital, with restaurants like Barbarestan serving historically-inspired Georgian cuisine in elegant 19th-century settings. Natural hot springs bubble up right in the city center, while day trips to wine regions like Kakheti offer private tastings at family vineyards where the owners become your personal guides.

Take some time out of your busy European vacation, and fly out to Georgia. You will be shocked about how amazing this country really is.

Vietnam

The infrastructure has caught up with luxury expectations, but prices haven’t followed suit. That’s a good thing for us budget travelers.

Vietnam has quietly become a luxury destination that rivals Thailand and Singapore, but at a fraction of the cost. In Ho Chi Minh City, stay at colonial-era hotels where French elegance meets Vietnamese charm, and your biggest expense might be deciding between the rooftop infinity pool or the full-service spa. Hit up Na Trang for some beach resorts that will rival those of Thailand in Krabi or Phuket.

The country’s culinary renaissance means you can experience world-class dining for the price of fast food elsewhere. Think private cooking classes with master chefs, street food tours in vintage Vespas, and multi-course dinners featuring local ingredients you’ve never heard of but will never forget. Even luxury cruise experiences through Halong Bay, complete with private balconies and butler service, cost less than a weekend in the Hamptons.

Where else can you get amazing Vietnamese food, awesome accommodations, and travel that is less than $100 a day? Vietnam is one of the best kept secrets. It is simply amazing!!

Poland

EU membership brings Western standards with Eastern European pricing.

Krakow and Warsaw are having a moment, and smart travelers are taking advantage before the secret spreads. Poland’s luxury hotels occupy restored palaces and historic buildings where you can sleep in rooms that once hosted royalty—for less than you’d pay for a chain hotel in Western Europe.

The country’s culinary scene has exploded beyond pierogi, with restaurants earning international acclaim for modern takes on traditional dishes. Wine bars occupy medieval cellars, spa treatments use local amber and salt, and even luxury shopping comes with significant savings compared to Paris or Milan. The real surprise? Poland’s emerging wine regions offer private tastings and vineyard tours that feel exclusive because they genuinely are.

Argentina

Economic fluctuations create incredible value for foreign currency holders.

Buenos Aires oozes sophistication, from tango performances in intimate theaters to steakhouses where dry-aged beef melts like butter. The city’s luxury hotels occupy Belle Époque mansions and Art Deco buildings, offering old-world elegance with modern amenities at prices that seem too good to be true.

Wine country in Mendoza provides some of the world’s best luxury experiences at developing-world prices. Private vineyard tours, helicopter rides over the Andes, and dinners paired with Malbecs that would cost three times as much in Napa Valley. Even luxury estancias (ranches) offer all-inclusive experiences with horseback riding, polo lessons, and gourmet asados for less than a weekend at a decent resort elsewhere.

Czech Republic

Prague has luxury infrastructure without Western European prices.

Prague looks like a Disney castle come to life, but the luxury experiences are very real and surprisingly affordable. Stay in hotels housed in former palaces where Habsburg royalty once slept, dine in restaurants with Michelin stars but not Michelin prices, and enjoy spa treatments in historic buildings where relaxation has been perfected over centuries.

The Czech Republic’s emerging luxury scene includes private beer tours (because Czech beer culture is serious business), classical concerts in venues like the Prague Castle, and shopping for Bohemian crystal and garnets directly from artisans. Even luxury river cruises along the Vltava cost a fraction of similar experiences in Western Europe.

Thailand

Northern regions and emerging destinations offer luxury without the Phuket price tags.

While everyone flocks to Phuket and pays premium prices, northern Thailand offers luxury experiences that feel exclusive because they are. Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai provide access to luxury resorts where infinity pools overlook mountain ranges and spa treatments incorporate ancient Thai healing traditions.

The real gems are the emerging luxury eco-resorts in places like Khao Sok National Park, where treetop villas and floating accommodations provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for prices that would barely cover a basic hotel room in Bangkok’s tourist areas. Private elephant sanctuaries, cooking classes with royal Thai cuisine masters, and meditation retreats led by Buddhist monks offer authentic luxury at accessible prices. There are even some luxury train rides that go through Thailand as well. You might as well try those while in South East Asia.

Morocco

Competition among luxury riads keeps prices competitive while quality soars. Morocco is a favorite amongst many tourists from all over. You can grab cheap flights for a weekend from England. There you can visit some great ski resorts that beat the prices of Switzerland, and enjoy amazing food for low costs.

Traditional riads are popping up everywhere as luxury accommodations for tourists. These aren’t just places to stay, they’re cultural immersion experiences where every meal is a feast, every room tells a story, and every sunset is best enjoyed from a rooftop terrace with Atlas Mountain views.

The country’s luxury experiences extend beyond accommodation. People think glamping is fun and all, but have you done desert camping in Morocco. The tents are fully heated, they have a bathroom, showers, and the food is die for. Even luxury desert tours, complete with camel rides and nights under star-filled skies, cost less than weekend getaways in most developed countries.

You must put Morocco on your luxury destination bucket list. It was surely a surprise on how much you can get with spending so little.

Portugal

Still recovering from economic challenges, Portugal offers luxury at pre-boom prices.

Lisbon and Porto provide European sophistication without European prices. Stay in pousadas (historic buildings converted to luxury hotels) where your room might be in a former monastery or palace. Dine at restaurants where fresh seafood and local wines create memorable meals without memorable prices.

Portugal’s luxury extends to experiences: private port wine tastings in Vila Nova de Gaia, luxury stays in Douro Valley quintas (wine estates), and beach resorts in the Algarve that compete with Mediterranean destinations at half the price. Even luxury shopping for Portuguese crafts, from ceramics to textiles, offers quality that rivals luxury brands at artisanal prices.

Malaysia

Focused on becoming a luxury destination while maintaining competitive pricing to attract international visitors.

Kuala Lumpur surprises visitors with its sophisticated luxury scene that rivals Singapore and Hong Kong at Malaysian prices. The city’s luxury hotels occupy iconic buildings like the Majestic Hotel, where colonial elegance meets modern Asian luxury. Dining scenes range from street food tours in luxury vehicles to rooftop restaurants with city views that stretch to the horizon.

Malaysia’s real luxury secret lies in destinations like Langkawi and the Cameron Highlands, where luxury resorts offer experiences like private island dining, jungle canopy walks, and tea plantation stays. Even luxury spa treatments incorporating traditional Malay healing practices cost less than basic massages in most Western cities.
