Review: The River House at Odette’s Hotel in New Hope

Opened September 2020, The River House at Odette’s Hotel in New Hope, Pennsylvania is a luxury, 34-room boutique hotel that’s become a magnet for New Yorkers who want something new from Catskills and Beacon, as well as travelers from nearby cities. Refined Hospitality spent seven years and $60 million developing the historic property, which dates back to the 1780s. The River House at Odette’s is the former site that featured Odette Myrtil’s boisterous cabaret, and the hotel paid tribute to her vibrant personality and French flair. New Hope

New Hope

New Hope is an emerging destination, chock-a-block with family-run restaurants, spiritual and New Age boutiques, intimate bars and public art along Main Street. For me, it felt like East Village meets New Paltz — only a lot more visually commanding and scenic especially with its location.

New Hope snuggles the Delaware River, which divides New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with plenty of amazing hikes and views abound. New Hope is pet friendly, so it’s a great spot for people travel with dogs.

River House at Odette’s Review

We’d be remiss in our review of The River House at Odette’s to mention the history. The building’s structure dates back to 1780s, but locals know it as the former site of Broadway entertainer Odette Myrtil’s cabaret. She ran a restaurant restaurant and cabaret, Chez Odette, here in the 1960s to 1970s, so history resonates.

Thankfully, the hotel pays tribute to her legacy and former stomping grounds, including a piano lounge and a members-only club that feels like a speakeasy.

The views here are striking, thanks to the location right on the river.

Rooms

Guestroom with river view

With the unobstructed river views, whether from the guest rooms (half with balconies) or rooftop lounge, guests will be compelled and feel relaxed. The sound of running river is soothing.

Due to the hotel’s intimate size and perfect location with commanding views, it’s popular for big events and weddings.

Presidential “Suite” Guest House

Standalone accommodation

We booked the standalone guest house presidential suite. These types of accommodations and boutique hotels and luxury resorts alike are becoming more common post Covid-19; premium accommodations set apart from the rest of the main hotel structure that offers more space, privacy and feels residential.

Inside the suite

Our two-bedroom guest house with private entrance, equipped with wrap-around balcony, large living area and kitchenette, gave us plenty of space and privacy. It’s carefully and colorfully styled.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom, and there’s a free mini bar. It was an excellent idea to book the guest house, which is just outside the main hotel.

We stayed here in the winter, when it snowed, so it was definitely perfect being snowed in a place like this.

The River House at Odette’s Restaurants

Odette’s Restaurant

The River House at Odette’s offers Odette’s Restaurant and Lounge, which was more upscale than I had expected. The cuisine exceeded expectations, and with the floor to ceiling glass windows, it felt rustic and spacious, spirited, and the views really gave sense of place.

Restaurant with great views

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating (seasonally) and and eclectic, locally inspired menu.

The cozy Piano Lounge is indoors with two-story lofted ceilings and a fireplace.

River House Member’s Club Roof

ROOF, the members only club (hotel guests have access), is a 1970s speakeasy inspired outdoor space with views of the river. The members only club is a testament to the affluent travelers who not only stay here, but live locally and nearby.
