A 2025 study from China’s Yunnan province suggests that focusing conservation efforts on primates could deliver outsized benefits for many other animals and plants. The analysis revealed that designating just 30 percent of Yunnan as primate conservation priority areas would secure roughly one-third of the habitat for 86 percent of the studied animals. The same zones would cover about one-third of the habitat for 72 percent of the seed plants. In addition, these priority areas would safeguard more than half of the province’s annual carbon storage capacity.
