Southwest Airlines has announced a significant expansion of its network with 15 new and returning routes that will connect 20 cities starting in March 2027. The Dallas-based carrier is strengthening its presence at several key airports where it has invested heavily in recent years. The move comes as the airline prepares larger schedules at its growing hubs in Austin and Orlando.

Nashville and Las Vegas Lead Additions

Nashville International Airport and Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas each receive four new routes under the plan. These additions reflect Southwest’s strategy of building on recent growth at both airports. Nashville gains daily service to Des Moines and Wichita, plus weekend flights to Aruba and St. Thomas. Las Vegas sees new links to Boston, Miami, Philadelphia, and Knoxville. The focus on these two airports underscores Southwest’s emphasis on leisure and business markets that have shown strong demand. Four routes at each location represent the largest single-airport gains in the announcement. Travelers from these cities will gain more nonstop options without connections.

Routes to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and the Heartland

Two new weekend flights from San Diego will serve Kona and Lihue in Hawaii. Nashville will add Saturday service to Aruba and St. Thomas, expanding Caribbean access. Additional routes connect Austin to Detroit and to San Jose, Costa Rica, while Orlando gains daily flights to Pensacola. These services target popular vacation destinations and growing regional markets. The Heartland routes from Nashville to Des Moines and Wichita fill gaps in Midwest connectivity. All flights are scheduled to begin in March 2027, aligning with spring break planning for many families.

Cross-Country Links and a Short Hop

Las Vegas will operate new service to Boston and Miami with varying frequencies. A short Baltimore to Philadelphia route will run twice daily. Orlando will add three daily flights to New York’s LaGuardia Airport. The cross-country options from Las Vegas provide direct alternatives on busy corridors. The Baltimore-Philadelphia hop offers a convenient same-day option for the Northeast corridor. Several of these routes previously operated but have been absent in recent years.

Reverse Redeye and Larger Hub Schedules

Southwest will introduce a westbound overnight flight from Las Vegas to Honolulu, departing at 2:45 a.m. and arriving at 6:10 a.m. local time. This reverse redeye stands out because most domestic overnight flights operate eastbound to take advantage of time zones. The carrier last flew similar Hawaii routes from San Diego in 2022 and Orlando to LaGuardia in 2023. The new routes, combined with added frequencies on existing flights, will create Southwest’s largest-ever schedules at Austin and Orlando. At Austin, the expanded operation should help the airline retain its leading market position despite growing competition. The changes also reinforce recent entries into St. Thomas and Knoxville.

What matters now: Travelers can begin booking these March 2027 flights for spring break and other trips, with new nonstops from Nashville, Las Vegas, Austin, and Orlando reducing reliance on connections.
