Star Alliance to Open Dedicated Incheon Lounge as Asiana Exits

Star Alliance has moved to secure its own branded lounge at Seoul Incheon International Airport ahead of a major shift in airline alliances. The development follows Asiana Airlines’ planned departure from the group later this year as part of its integration with Korean Air. The airport ranked as the world’s busiest for international traffic in the first half of 2026, underscoring its importance as a hub. ## The Agreement and Transition Plan Star Alliance and Incheon International Airport Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding on September 8, 2026. Under the deal, the existing Asiana Airlines Business Lounge (West) in Terminal 1 will convert into a Star Alliance-branded facility. Operations are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, timed to minimize disruption for passengers. The new lounge will mark Star Alliance’s seventh dedicated facility worldwide. It joins existing locations at Paris Charles de Gaulle, Los Angeles International, and Guangzhou Baiyun. Unlike lounges operated by individual member airlines, this space will carry the alliance’s own branding and focus on consistent service standards across the network. ## What Changes for Passengers Eligible Star Alliance Gold members and premium-cabin travelers on member airlines will gain access to the new lounge once it opens. The facility aims to deliver the same level of comfort and amenities previously available through Asiana’s lounges. Asiana Club members will transition to Korean Air’s SkyTeam benefits following the merger.
