La Superior, a popular Mexican restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, is throwing a free block party every Sunday night through the summer of 2021. The restaurant was able to get a permit to have this weekly, outdoor block party that starts around 5 pm and ends promptly at 9 pm.

The block party, which is on Berry Street between South 1st and South 2nd, has live DJs performing on the street, as well as a diverse mix of party goers. The block party is literally outside my apartment, so basically, I won’t have a quiet Sunday night or be able to binge Netflix between the hours of 5 pm and 9 pm, which is fine by me — the party is crazy fun.

At the last block party, I noticed the crowd of 150+ snowballing in size the later the night went on.

The crowd was a nice mix of residents, a lot of gay millennials, hipsters, and night owls. You can not pass this area without smelling marijuana everywhere, and you can drink outside, which is amazing.

After a year of lockdown and quarantine during Covid-19, the block party was a nice way to move forward. The party has great energy, and it’s a cool way to close the weekend. The street party really got going after sunset, where people, who were there for hours already, were just letting loose.

There is no cover. It is free. The music is amazing. The DJs are great. The crowd is great. You can drink on the street. Get vaccinated and go!
