Travelers eyeing a quick escape to the pink-sand beaches of Bermuda will soon have a fresh option from the Midwest. United Airlines has outlined plans for a new seasonal nonstop that adds to its existing service from the East Coast. At the same time, the carrier is expanding its presence at San Francisco International Airport with three additional routes that reconnect the Bay Area to several domestic markets. ([1])
A Direct Path to Bermuda
The new flight will operate from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. It marks United’s second nonstop link to the island destination, complementing its established service from Newark. The route is scheduled to begin in early April and run on a weekly basis through the peak summer months, giving Midwestern travelers a convenient way to reach the British overseas territory roughly 650 miles off the North Carolina coast. This addition reflects United’s broader strategy of strengthening leisure routes during high-demand periods. Bermuda has long appealed to travelers seeking a short-haul tropical escape without leaving U.S. airspace considerations. The new service should make the destination more accessible for those based farther inland.
Renewed Options from San Francisco
United is also refreshing its San Francisco schedule with a mix of returning and new domestic flights. Two of the routes revive connections that ended years ago, while the third opens a fresh link to a popular coastal city. All three are set to start in late March and operate through the warmer months, aligning with typical leisure travel patterns. The moves come as United continues to fine-tune its West Coast operations. San Francisco serves as a key gateway for both domestic and international passengers, and these additions aim to capture more point-to-point traffic alongside the airline’s larger hub activities.
The Routes at a Glance
The four-route package covers a total of six cities and relies primarily on Boeing 737 family aircraft, with one route using a smaller regional jet. Here are the details:
- Chicago O’Hare to Bermuda: Weekly service starting April 3.
- San Francisco to Charleston, South Carolina: Four weekly round-trips from March 28 through November 29.
- San Francisco to Hartford, Connecticut: Daily service beginning March 28.
- San Francisco to Oklahoma City: Daily service starting March 28.
These frequencies give travelers flexibility during the summer season while keeping capacity measured.
Looking Ahead for Travelers
The announcements follow closely on United’s earlier reveal of new Canada routes, underscoring the airline’s steady pace of network adjustments. For passengers, the changes translate into more direct choices for both leisure escapes and regional connections without relying on connections through major hubs. As summer 2027 approaches, flyers can begin monitoring schedules and fares for these services. The additions highlight how carriers continue to respond to shifting demand patterns in the post-pandemic recovery.
