MSC Cruises has revealed plans for a new dry slide that will surpass every other attraction of its kind at sea. The feature arrives on the line’s next World Class vessel and extends the long-running contest with Royal Caribbean over the most dramatic onboard experiences. Construction of the slide is already underway at the shipyard in France.
Extreme Dimensions Set New Mark
The Spiral @ Tree of Life measures 266 feet from top to bottom. Riders will descend the equivalent of 12 decks in a continuous spiral before reaching the lower deck exit. That vertical drop exceeds the previous record holder by two full decks.
The slide is entirely dry, so passengers ride without water propulsion. Its length beats the 259-foot Ultimate Abyss on Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas by seven feet. MSC first claimed the record with an earlier version on MSC World Europa, only to lose it again before reclaiming the lead with this latest design.
Intense Rivalry Drives Innovation
Royal Caribbean introduced the first Ultimate Abyss slide on Harmony of the Seas in 2016. The company later added similar versions to three more Oasis Class ships, each measuring 216 feet. MSC responded quickly with a longer attraction on MSC World Europa and now pushes the mark further still.
Both lines target families who seek big-ship thrills alongside pools, shows, and dining options. The back-and-forth has produced increasingly ambitious features that distinguish these vessels from smaller competitors. Industry observers view the latest announcement as another chapter in that established pattern.
World Asia Brings Scale and Amenities
MSC World Asia will rise 20 decks and accommodate up to 6,762 passengers. The vessel forms part of the World Class series that already includes MSC World Europa and MSC World America. A large water park, multiple pools, and a swinging ride over the ocean will sit alongside the new slide on the top deck.
Inside, a three-deck-high promenade will connect restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues. The ship is under construction at Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire and is scheduled to enter service later this year as the line’s new flagship.
European Itinerary Begins in December
MSC World Asia will operate seven-night Western Mediterranean cruises starting December 4. Ports of call include Barcelona, Marseille, Messina, Civitavecchia near Rome, Naples, and Valletta. The schedule positions the vessel to serve a wide range of European travelers seeking both relaxation and high-energy activities.
Passengers who choose the slide will experience a controlled yet dramatic descent that highlights the growing emphasis on memorable moments at sea. The addition reinforces MSC’s strategy of equipping its largest ships with signature attractions that stand out even among the world’s biggest vessels.
