Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines operate under a shared loyalty program that continues to shape travel options for many U.S. passengers. The Atmos Rewards Ascent Visa Signature card enters this landscape as a $95 annual fee product designed to support frequent flyers on those carriers while offering broader utility through the Oneworld alliance. Its timing aligns with ongoing integration between the two airlines, giving cardholders a straightforward entry point into the Atmos Rewards currency.
Core Benefits Tied to the Airlines
Cardholders receive one free checked bag for themselves and up to six companions on the same reservation when paying with the card on Alaska or Hawaiian flights. This perk alone can offset the annual fee quickly for families or groups that check luggage regularly. Preferred boarding and a 20 percent discount on inflight purchases further reduce friction during travel with either airline. The card also awards one status point for every three dollars spent, with no cap, helping members progress toward elite tiers. These benefits remain available only when flying Alaska or Hawaiian, which limits their reach for travelers who rarely use those carriers.
Companion Fare and Lounge Discount
After meeting a $6,000 spending threshold in an anniversary year, cardholders unlock an annual $99 Companion Fare plus taxes and fees starting at $23. This award applies to paid tickets and has delivered measurable savings on routes such as Portland to Chicago. The perk requires at least occasional travel on Alaska Airlines to realize full value. Cardholders also receive $100 off an annual Alaska Lounge+ membership, which normally costs $795. While this discount covers the card fee itself, the membership price remains high enough that the benefit appeals mainly to those already planning to purchase access.
Earning Rates and Redemption Options
Spending on the card produces points at the following rates:
- 3 points per dollar on Alaska and Hawaiian purchases
- 2 points per dollar on gas, transit, ride-hailing, cable, electric vehicle charging, and select streaming services
- 1 point per dollar on everything else
Eligible Bank of America customers receive a 10 percent points bonus. Recent valuations place Atmos Rewards points at 1.55 cents each, supporting strong returns on short-haul domestic flights starting at 4,500 points one way and longer routes at 12,500 points. Redemptions extend to Oneworld partners including Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, and Fiji Airways. Business class awards to Asia or the South Pacific can begin at 75,000 points one way, giving the currency reach beyond the two primary airlines.
Where the Card Falls Short
The Atmos Rewards Ascent lacks standard travel protections such as trip cancellation coverage or baggage insurance. Earning rates outside Alaska and Hawaiian categories remain modest compared with many general travel cards. The Companion Fare also requires the $6,000 spend threshold each year. Travelers seeking lounge access or higher everyday rewards may find the premium Atmos Rewards Summit card or unrelated products more suitable. The card carries no foreign transaction fees, however, which supports international use.
What Matters Now
Its $95 fee and current sign-up offer of 70,000 bonus points plus the Companion Fare after $2,500 in spending within 90 days provide a measured entry point. Individuals should weigh their annual flying patterns and preferred redemption style before applying.
