Houston – United Airlines has opened the largest airline lounge in the United States today at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The new United Club in the expanded Terminal B North concourse spans 54,000 square feet and offers 800 seats across multiple distinct zones. It forms part of a broader upgrade that adds 22 gates and new dining options to the airport. ([1])
Scale That Redefines the Airport Experience
The single-level lounge sits near Gate B11 and stretches far beyond typical club footprints. Multiple rooms flow into one another, each with its own character and seating style. Some areas feature plush loungers positioned for airfield views, while others include tiered seating and space for more active use. The design accommodates a high volume of passengers without feeling cramped, even during peak connection times. Travelers will find 11 private phone booths for calls and focused work. Two full-service bars and two separate buffets help manage demand for food and drinks. The overall layout emphasizes variety, giving guests choices between quiet corners and livelier gathering spots.
Outdoor Terrace Offers Rare Fresh Air
A 1,350-square-foot outdoor terrace marks a first for lounges at this airport. The space provides direct views of the airfield and includes fans to offset warmer days. Houston’s climate can turn intense, yet the option for open air appeals during milder seasons and offers a quick change of scenery from the indoor zones. The terrace integrates with the rest of the club through easy access points. It stands out as one of the few places where passengers can step outside without leaving the secure area. Early visitors noted its potential popularity once regular operations begin.
Texas-Inspired Menu and Drink Options
Food service centers on two buffets stocked with regional favorites. Offerings during the preview included smoked beef brisket, chicken chili enchilada casserole, a taqueria station with meats, rice, beans, and tortillas, plus biscuits and gravy. Tres leches cake rounded out the selection and drew particular praise for its quality. Two bars support the dining areas. The smaller Moonshot Bar, positioned near the terrace, highlights Houston’s space heritage with an expanded tequila selection alongside standard options. Complimentary beverages range from sparkling wine and craft beers to spirits, sodas, and specialty coffees. Snacks and flavored waters remain available throughout the day.
Practical Access and Daily Operations
The club follows standard United Club entry rules and operates daily from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eligible passengers include those with premium cabin tickets, certain credit cards, or paid memberships. Large family restrooms and a dedicated wellness room add convenience for travelers with children or specific needs. The facility joins an existing grab-and-go concept in the same terminal. Together they aim to make layovers more comfortable for both connecting passengers and those on shorter routes. Early feedback highlights the thoughtful details that set this space apart from smaller predecessors.
