Manila – Philippine workers can secure nearly a month of consecutive time off in 2027 by strategically using just nine days of leave around the official holiday calendar. The year features several built-in long weekends and three prime windows where modest leave filings create extended breaks suitable for travel. Proclamation No. 1427, signed in September 2026, sets the framework for regular and special non-working days. ([1]) ## Seven Built-In Long Weekends Seven long weekends require no leave at all. These breaks range from three to four days and provide immediate opportunities for short domestic trips or quick regional hops. The list includes New Year’s (1-3 January), Holy Week (25-28 March), Araw ng Kagitingan (9-11 April), National Heroes Day (28-30 August), Undas (30 October-2 November), Christmas (24-26 December), and a year-end stretch into 2028 (30 December-2 January). Holy Week and Undas stand out as four-day periods that already support short international travel without additional days off. ## Turning Nine Leave Days Into 28 Off The strongest payoff comes from three targeted leave blocks. Filing three days around Holy Week extends the break to nine consecutive days. The same approach around Undas yields another nine-day stretch. Three more days before Christmas and New Year create a ten-day run. Together these nine leave days deliver 28 days off across the year. A smaller one-day filing around Bonifacio Day and two days near the Feast of the Immaculate Conception add shorter breaks if desired. Companies typically grant 15 days of annual leave, leaving room for other needs after these blocks. Early filing is essential for the first major window, as offices often see high demand once calendars open. ## Saturday Holidays and Pay Rules Six holidays fall on Saturdays in 2027, limiting extra days off for standard Monday-to-Friday schedules. Regular holidays on those dates still trigger full pay for eligible workers, while special non-working days follow “no work, no pay” unless company policy states otherwise. Separate rules apply for employees who work Saturdays, including double pay on regular holidays and premium rates on special days. Eid’l Fitr and Eid’l Adha dates remain pending separate proclamations. Current astronomical projections point to possible March and May windows that could add further long weekends once confirmed. ## Overseas Options for the Longer Breaks The nine- and ten-day blocks open realistic windows for trips abroad. Hong Kong and Taiwan rank among the more accessible visa-free destinations for Philippine passport holders during the first half of the year. Shorter three-day weekends suit domestic routes such as Manila to Cebu, where fares often stay modest outside peak periods. Travelers should monitor seat sales early, particularly for Holy Week, and compare current pricing on major routes. Data connectivity options like eSIMs can simplify logistics on international legs. Booking windows for the biggest breaks close quickly once fares appear.
