The American Express Platinum Card and The Business Platinum Card from American Express stand out for the breadth of airport lounge access they provide. Cardmembers gain entry to Centurion Lounges along with several partner networks that together reach more than 1,550 locations in 140 countries. The full value depends on understanding each network’s rules, spending thresholds, and guest policies.
Centurion Lounges Offer Premium Amenities
Centurion Lounges represent the flagship option for eligible Platinum cardmembers. These facilities feature staffed bars, full meals, high-speed Wi-Fi, and varied seating areas. Some locations also include family rooms and newer dining concepts such as Sidecar by Centurion Lounge.
Sixteen Centurion Lounges operate in the United States, with additional sites open at 11 airports abroad. New locations are planned for Newark this year and Boston in 2029. Access requires a same-day boarding pass, the eligible card, and government-issued identification. Cardmembers must arrive within three hours of departure for most visits, though connecting itineraries allow up to five hours before the next flight.
Guest fees apply at U.S. locations unless the cardmember meets a $75,000 annual spending requirement. That threshold unlocks complimentary access for up to two guests through January 31 of the following year after the spend is achieved.
Delta Sky Club and Priority Pass Extend Reach
Platinum and Business Platinum cardmembers receive access to Delta Sky Clubs on same-day Delta-operated flights, subject to a 10-visit annual limit unless the $75,000 spending threshold is met. Authorized users on additional Platinum cards receive their own separate allotments. Visits beyond the limit cost $50 each, or $25 at Grab and Go locations.
Priority Pass Select membership comes with both cards after required enrollment. This network covers more than 1,900 lounges worldwide, though restaurants are excluded. Cardmembers present the Priority Pass card, identification, and boarding pass at participating locations. Up to two guests are allowed per visit when the lounge permits them.
Additional Partners and Upcoming Changes
Escape Lounges, select Plaza Premium locations, and other Global Lounge Collection partners round out the available options. Access at these sites follows similar requirements of card, identification, and same-day boarding pass, with guest policies that vary by location. Lufthansa lounge access ends October 1, 2026, for flights on Lufthansa Group carriers.
Cardmembers can search current locations and hours through the American Express Global Lounge Collection tool. Policies differ by country at international sites, so verification before travel remains essential.
Key Access Requirements Across Networks
- Same-day confirmed boarding pass required for all lounges
- Government-issued ID and eligible Platinum card needed at entry
- Centurion and Delta visits limited by time windows and annual caps
- Guest access often requires spending thresholds or per-visit fees
Practical Considerations for Cardmembers
Both the personal and business versions of the Platinum Card deliver nearly identical lounge benefits, with authorized users on additional cards receiving separate visit allotments where limits apply. Spending requirements unlock enhanced guest privileges and unlimited Delta Sky Club access for qualifying cardmembers.
Travelers benefit most when they review each network’s specific rules ahead of trips. This approach helps avoid unexpected fees or denied entry at busy locations.
