Chase cardholders with Ultimate Rewards points now have updated Pay Yourself Back categories available through September 30. The program lets eligible customers offset recent purchases with points at rates that often exceed the standard cash-back value. This flexibility appeals especially to those holding cobranded cards who want straightforward statement credits rather than complex travel bookings.

How the Feature Works for Cardholders

Pay Yourself Back sits inside Chase’s Ultimate Rewards ecosystem as an alternative to transferring points to travel partners. Cardmembers can apply points toward specific purchases made in the prior 90 days, receiving statement credits at boosted rates for certain categories. The option appears on premium cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Preferred, as well as several Freedom and Ink products. Cobranded cards tied to United, Southwest, Aeroplan, and Marriott also participate, though their rates and eligible purchases differ. The program targets everyday spending that travelers and business owners encounter regularly. Qualifying charities receive the highest rates on many cards, while other categories such as gas, transit, pet supplies, and shipping services carry their own multipliers. These rates remain fixed for the quarter and reset or change in October.

Q3 2026 Redemption Rates by Card

The current quarter highlights elevated values for donations and select merchant types. Rates are expressed in cents per point and apply only to purchases within the 90-day window.

Card Key Categories and Rates End Date
Chase Sapphire Reserve, J.P. Morgan Reserve Charities at 1.5 cents; annual fee at 1.25 cents; gas and transit at 1.2 cents Sept. 30
Chase Sapphire Preferred Charities at 1.25 cents; pet supplies, veterinary, and annual fee at 1.1 cents; transit at 1.05 cents Sept. 30
Freedom Flex, Freedom Unlimited, Freedom, Ink Business Preferred, Ink Business Cash, Ink Business Premier, Ink Business Unlimited Charities at 1.25 cents; shipping, internet, cable, and phone at 1.1 cents on select Ink cards Sept. 30
Aeroplan Credit Card Travel and annual fee at 1.25 cents (up to annual limits); dining, gas, and groceries at 0.8 cents Sept. 30
United, Southwest, Marriott Bonvoy Bold Annual fees and select travel at 1 to 1.5 cents depending on card Ongoing

A broad list of approved charities qualifies across participating cards, including the American Red Cross, Feeding America, and UNICEF USA. Cardholders can offset the full amount of an eligible purchase provided they hold sufficient points.

Key Q3 values at a glance: Sapphire Reserve reaches 1.5 cents per point on charities; most other cards top out at 1.25 cents for the same category. Standard cash back remains fixed at 1 cent per point.

Value Comparison and Practical Impact

Standard cash-back redemptions deliver exactly 1 cent per point, a figure below independent valuations of Ultimate Rewards points that place them near 2 cents each. Pay Yourself Back therefore improves returns for cardholders who lack immediate travel plans or prefer simplicity. On the Sapphire Reserve, for example, 10,000 points generate a $150 credit toward charity instead of the $100 available through ordinary cash back. Cobranded cardholders sometimes receive even higher effective rates on annual fees or airline purchases. These elevated redemptions can offset costs that would otherwise require cash outlay. The program does not replace the higher values possible through partner transfers, yet it provides reliable utility when points sit unused. Stakeholders include frequent travelers who carry multiple Chase products, small-business owners using Ink cards, and anyone seeking to reduce out-of-pocket expenses on recurring bills. The September 30 cutoff creates a clear window for action before rates potentially shift.

Redemption Process and Next Steps

Cardholders access the feature by logging into the Chase mobile app or website and selecting Pay Yourself Back from the rewards menu. The platform displays eligible recent purchases and the corresponding point cost. Users confirm the amount, and credits typically appear on the statement within three business days. Those considering the option should first review their recent statements for matching categories and compare the effective return against other redemption paths. Checking the list again in October will reveal whether new categories justify continued use. The feature adds meaningful flexibility for many Chase portfolios without requiring advanced strategies.
