French Polynesia continues to draw travelers seeking turquoise lagoons and remote atolls, and two sister cruise lines have introduced a new incentive to make voyages there more accessible. Paul Gauguin Cruises and Ponant Explorations are offering $1,000 in shipboard credit per cabin on select sailings through the end of 2027. The promotion, available only for new bookings made by October 31, can be combined with existing early-booking discounts that reach up to 30 percent off published rates. ([1])

The Core Incentive and Its Business Context

The $1,000 credit applies to cabins booked for two guests and drops to $500 for solo travelers. It can be used for spa treatments, premium beverages, and shore excursions on Paul Gauguin sailings or for similar onboard purchases on Ponant vessels. The credit carries no cash value if unused and converts to euros on Le Jacques Cartier departures.

Both lines belong to the same French parent company, which positions the promotion as a way to fill cabins on vessels already committed to the region. The offer stacks with loyalty program benefits, Canadian resident savings, and strategic account amenities, yet it excludes group rates, interline fares, and reduced single supplements. Bookings must reference the code TEMPTAH and route through the Americas sales office for U.S.-dollar pricing.

Two Ships, Two Styles of Exploration

Paul Gauguin Cruises operates the 330-passenger m/s Paul Gauguin, a vessel permanently based in French Polynesia. Its itineraries emphasize overnight calls at well-known islands such as Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti, along with additional stops that allow passengers to experience local culture through resident-led activities and traditional performances. Shore excursions on this ship generally carry separate charges, which the new credit can offset.

Ponant Explorations has stationed the 184-passenger Le Jacques Cartier in the region since September. This expedition-style vessel reaches more remote archipelagos, including the Gambier and Austral Islands. Zodiac landings, included snorkeling and diving, and community-designed cultural visits form the core of its program. All expedition activities and daily shore excursions are bundled into the fare.

Itinerary Reach and Market Positioning

The Gauguin focuses on the Society Islands while also offering occasional extensions to the Cook Islands, Marquesas, Tuamotus, Fiji, and Tonga. Guests spend extended time at multiple islands without the need for inter-island flights, a contrast to typical resort stays that center on a single property.

Le Jacques Cartier adds depth with calls at Pitcairn, remote Tuamotu atolls, and the sparsely populated Austral and Gambier groups. Its smaller size permits access to lagoons and beaches unavailable to larger ships, aligning with Ponant’s strategy of serving travelers who seek less-visited destinations.

Timeline, Restrictions, and Practical Takeaways

The booking window closes at the end of October, after which the $1,000 credit will no longer be available for new reservations. Fares already reflect port taxes, fees, and any stacked early-booking savings. Availability remains subject to change, and the lines have noted that other standard restrictions may apply.

Travelers weighing the promotion should compare the two vessels’ pacing and included activities. Those who prefer structured cultural immersion and longer island stays may favor the Gauguin, while passengers drawn to expedition landings and remote atolls may find Le Jacques Cartier the stronger fit. Both ships maintain upscale French service standards and largely all-inclusive pricing that covers most meals, beverages, Wi-Fi, and gratuities.

Outlook for the Region

The coordinated promotion reflects ongoing investment by the parent company in French Polynesia at a time when demand for intimate, destination-focused cruises remains steady. With two distinct vessels operating complementary itineraries, the lines can address a wider range of traveler preferences while using the onboard credit to encourage immediate bookings. Those considering a South Pacific voyage now have a defined window to secure the added value before the offer expires.
