Hotel developments this summer brought several notable updates for travelers seeking distinctive experiences. One of the most striking involves a historic New York property transforming part of its interior for an unexpected sporting event. Other announcements point to expanded all-inclusive options in Africa and the Caribbean, alongside new resort openings in scenic destinations.
A Ballroom Transformed for Elite Tennis
The Waldorf Astoria New York is preparing to host an indoor tennis event in its renowned ballroom. Scheduled for August 27, the Waldorf Astoria Racquet Club: Ballroom Tennis Invitational will feature professional players including Tommy Paul, Ben Shelton, Leylah Fernandez, and Maria Sakkari. The hotel, which reopened last year, continues to draw attention with this creative use of its grand space.
Special packages tied to the event include glasses of Moët & Chandon along with dishes prepared by Chef Michael Anthony of Lex Yard. The choice of venue raises practical questions about protecting the room’s signature chandeliers during play. Still, the initiative highlights how luxury properties are experimenting with new ways to engage guests.
Marriott Expands All-Inclusive Footprint
Marriott is adding two new all-inclusive resorts that align with growing demand for predictable pricing and comprehensive amenities. One property is slated for Montego Bay, Jamaica, with an expected opening in 2028. The second will arrive next year in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
The Zanzibar resort is described as featuring multiple swimming pools, a spa, a theater, an oceanfront jetty that includes a seawater pool and bar, and a varied culinary program. These additions build on Marriott’s existing presence in the all-inclusive segment and offer travelers more options in popular leisure markets.
Four Seasons Naviva Adds Cultural Partnership
Naviva, a Four Seasons Resort in Mexico, has formed a collaboration with the woman-owned brand Eterno Embrujo. The partnership introduces a limited-edition agave-based raicilla available exclusively at the property. The spirit represents a personal tribute by owner Larissa Carrillo Solís to her father and supports efforts to preserve a traditional Mexican ancestral drink.
Guests can explore the offering through the resort’s Road to Raicilla program, which includes guided experiences across land and sea. Set on 48 acres of rainforest beside the Pacific Ocean, the resort provides a setting that pairs relaxation with meaningful cultural encounters.
Hyatt Plans Victoria Falls Debut
Hyatt will open the Grand Hyatt Victoria Falls The Kingdom in Zimbabwe next year. The 245-room property will include a spa and three restaurants. It is positioned as the closest hotel to the entrance of Victoria Falls National Park.
The development aims to make one of the world’s most dramatic natural sites more accessible for World of Hyatt members. With its scale and location, the resort is expected to stand out within the brand’s growing collection of properties in Africa.
Looking Ahead for Travelers
These projects reflect broader trends in hospitality, from creative event programming at established landmarks to new builds that emphasize convenience and immersion. Properties continue to adapt their offerings to meet evolving guest preferences for both novelty and reliability. As openings approach, availability through loyalty programs may provide additional ways to experience them.
